Citrus fruits are grown in an underground greenhouse in Volyn
Resident of Volyn region Volodymyr Bolotin from the village of Knyagininok grows citrus fruits in the Volyn climate. His greenhouse collection includes pomelo, lime, citron Buddha's Hand, kumquat, lemon, orange and other citrus fruits.
As the gardener said, his greenhouse in the village is not immediately visible, because it is deepened two meters into the ground.
The transparent dome and protection from the ground, says Vladimir Bolotin, allows citrus fruits to be grown without additional lighting and with minimal heating costs.
“Once I saw a story about growing citrus fruits. As I was on a business trip in Kyiv, I visited this breeder, saw his greenhouse and came up with the idea to build myself the same one. I bought 10 seedlings and since then the passion for citrus fruits has begun, ”said the Volhynian.
The seedlings purchased several years ago are now full-fledged trees. Citrus fruits in the greenhouse produce large fruits and miniature lemons, says the gardener.
“The greatest fruits that we had and we weighed were 1.2 kilograms. Such fruits are borne by the Panderosa lemon. We get the smallest in weight "Fingerlime" microcytruses. Another name for the plant is "citrus caviar", inside of which there are small eggs ", added Vladimir Bolotin.
Growing citrus fruits is the main occupation of the gardener. He takes care of, seats and works in the greenhouse himself, – says the Volhynian. Some of the seedlings grow in small pots, some are in special incubators.
“I invented this technology myself. I saw such a greenhouse on the Internet, ordered it from welders, sheathed it. In this incubator we propagate plants, cut cuttings from large plants, and here they take root in us. I know every plant in my greenhouse by sight, ”said the man.
In an underground greenhouse, Vladimir Bolotin grows plants that do not shed their foliage in winter and develop well in an apartment or house. According to the gardener, they have enough lighting and temperature at home.
As the professor of the botany department Sergey Volgin told about the cultivation of citrus fruits in the climate in Volyn, the plants are not tropical and do not require a lot of heat.
“Now we have a lot of new interesting species that are not always seen in botanical gardens. And Vladimir has such forms, who grows such interesting plants, ”the scientist added.
Volynin Vladimir Bolotin collects crops in the greenhouse during the year. In winter, kumquats and tangerines ripen. A novelty of recent years, according to the gardener, is a tree with several types of fruits. Some of these hybrid plants have already begun to bear fruit.
