Pea exports may return to past volumes
During the first 2 months of the new season, 117 thousand tons of peas were exported, which is 26% less than in the same period last year. The lag in the pace of shipments is most likely caused by the late start of the harvest campaign. Therefore, the July export of peas amounted to only 34 thousand tons, which is the minimum since 2017.
Most of the export volume, as usual, went in the traditional direction – to the EU, however, the volumes decreased by 52% compared to the previous season. At the same time, demand from other buyers has increased (Turkey, Pakistan, African countries), analysts say UkrAgroConsult.
According to UkrAgroConsult, pea exports in 2021/22 MY may return to the volumes of 2019/20 MY.
Export growth will be possible due to increased production due to improved yields. The latest harvest data from the Ministry of Economy shows an average yield of 2.41 t / ha.
The growth in demand for Ukrainian peas will be facilitated by a reduction in harvests in Turkey, the EU and Canada.
Let us remind you that India will open the market for Ukrainian legumes.
