Due to the drought, the highest yield in 2021 was shown by the early sowing of sunflower
In many regions of Ukraine, in particular in the East, due to arid conditions, the agrarians received the highest yield of sunflower from plots where sowing took place at an early date. This trend, as experts predict, may continue in the coming years.
This is stated in the article "Features of the 2021 season for sunflower in the southeastern regions."
“As for the sowing dates, we set ourselves the task of seeing how certain hybrids would react, in particular, at an early date. That is, for cold stress, when the soil is not yet sufficiently warmed up. Will the stairs fall out for this reason? For comparison, the plots nearby were sown at the optimal time, that is, when the soil temperature had already reached 10-12 ° C, and then sowed at later times, ”says Sergey Kornyushenko, manager of agricultural technologies development at LNZ Group in the Eastern region.
Further, we constantly observed which ladders were obtained on each of the sites, how friendly, how the plants developed further, whether the sowing time influenced the final result.
“The early crops" slipped through" the drought, while those sown from May 1 to 10 showed slightly worse results. But such abnormal weather conditions, which were this year, are likely to be observed more and more often, so this experience will also be needed, ”the expert emphasized.
Sergey also emphasized that the conclusions on the experimental plots are made not only in terms of yield. Observations are carried out during the period of germination, flowering, various natural stress factors are analyzed, how they affect the development of plants, pollination, maturation, etc. Then all these observations are analyzed and implemented to develop technologies.
