World prices for malting barley continue to rise
Global prices for malting barley are gradually rising and have already crossed previous records, experts from RMI Analytics said in a report, released in late September.
Canadian barley is now significantly more expensive than barley from other countries, as the extent of crop damage has not yet been fully assessed. The country will likely have to import malting barley. In other countries, prices for barley are either consistently high or continue to rise, reports E-malt. The premium for brewing quality is also increasing, while the prices for feed barley have dropped somewhat.
Market activity eased as some buyers, notably in China, reduced purchases due to high prices.
The main suppliers for China are now France and Argentina, while Australia is receiving more and more inquiries from buyers looking for high quality and reasonable prices. In Europe, the harvest in 2022 is in great demand, the prices for which are lower than for the harvest in 2021.
Analysts warn that against the background of the growing deficit of malting barley, it is unlikely that a decline in barley prices should be expected in the near future.
In Ukraine, the premium for malting barley relative to feed barley at the beginning of the season was 500-800 UAH / t, and now the processors are ready to increase it for high-quality grain.
For three months of 2021/22 MY, Ukraine exported 3.7 million tons out of the projected 5 million tons of barley, while in the previous season, barley exports amounted to 4.2 million tons. squirrel in the current season.
Against the background of rising prices for corn at 255-260 $ / t and feed wheat up to 265-270 $ / t, the demand for Ukrainian barley has also increased and the market is currently awaiting the results of a tender in Turkey, which plans to purchase 300 thousand tons of barley.
