The cultivation of medicinal herbs in Ukraine can be a fairly profitable business, since the price of the product is quite high, and a small land plot is enough to start. It was this niche of agriculture that Vladimir Volosnikova and Yuriy Sinchuk, veterans of the war in the East of Ukraine, chose for themselves, after completing their service, deciding to start farming. This year, the farmers have harvested the first sage harvest.

“Why should ATOs start a business? Believing in yourself, that you can do something for yourself and your family is the most important thing. And if there are like-minded people, it’s much easier to work,” says Vladimir Volosnikov.

“Why exactly medicinal cultures? This is a new promising direction. Ukraine imports thousands of tons of medicinal plants, and we can grow it ourselves. This year we are going to produce 1 ton of 200 kg of dried raw materials, and this is from a small area, because we are just learning how to grow grass,” adds Yuriy Sinchuk.

Veterans registered SK GREEN PHARM LLC and sowed the crop in the spring. This was done with manual seeders and harvested by hand. Received 1.2 tons of dried sage. Next year, farmers plan to expand production – to grow 3 – 4 medicinal crops. Also, veterans are interested in the direction of bioenergy crops.

SK GREEN PHARM LLC will begin to implement the plan to expand production next year. They took the first step for this – a grant from the Ukrainian Horticultural Business Development Project UHBDP and purchased a tractor and attachments.
