Honeysuckle producer in Zhytomyr region plans to expand
Farmer Andrey Kovalchuk, who grows 2.6 hectares of honeysuckle in the Novograd-Volynsky district of the Zhytomyr region, intends to expand the plantations.
He sold the first harvests at a price of UAH 200-350 / kg and could not meet the demand, writes AgroTimes with reference to the Planter magazine.
Now the farmer grows 4 varieties: "Bakcharsky giant", "Daughter of a giant", "Delight" and "Yugan".
“The berries were sold on the fresh market throughout Ukraine,” said Andriy Kovalchuk. – The harvest was sold in full, until the berry, there was still not enough. There were a lot of applications ”.
According to the berry-grower, the selling price of honeysuckle ranged from 200 to 350 UAH / kg ($ 7.6 -13.3), that is, on a par with blueberries. And even higher.
“We are planning to plant honeysuckle on new plantations,” Andrey Kovalchuk said. – The market demands both early, medium and late varieties. People tried honeysuckle, they liked it. Received more information from us, read what they wrote in the media. Good applications started coming in. We will expand and prepare plots for this ”.
According to him, he plans to plant more new varieties, in particular the Canadian selection: Borealis Beauty, Borealis Beest (Best) and Borealis Blizzard, which have different ripening periods – from medium to late. Plus new varieties of Russian selection with improved taste, suitable for mechanical harvesting, with good transportability.
