Prices for greenhouse cucumbers have fallen in Ukraine
After a sharp rise in the price of greenhouse cucumbers last week in Ukraine, prices began to decline rapidly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. As representatives of agricultural producers note, the decline in prices was quite expected, since the supply of second-turn cucumbers on the market is growing every day, and the demand remains relatively low.
Today greenhouse factories sell cucumbers at UAH 10-15 / kg ($ 0.38-0.56 / kg), which is 35% cheaper on average than at the end of the last working week.
According to producers, weakening demand is forcing them to reduce prices for greenhouse cucumbers. Today, retail chains and wholesalers purchase greenhouse cucumbers in small quantities due to extremely low retail sales. Growers of greenhouse cucumbers have not been able to avoid lower prices, even though competition with open field cucumbers has declined significantly.
Today, the price of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine is already on average 16% lower than in mid-September 2020. At the same time, the majority of manufacturers' representatives expect further price reductions in this segment, as the new offer of cucumbers on the market is increasing.
