Cucumber prices rose record in Ukraine
Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine continue to grow rapidly, and now they are already noticeably higher than last year. The main reason for the next rise in prices was the limited supply of cucumber on the market. Most of the Ukrainian factories have already completed the sales season for these products, and supplies from the external market, in particular from Turkey, are rather unstable.
Today, local greenhouse plants are selling cucumber at UAH 48-55 / kg ($ 1.76-2.02 / kg), which is on average 11% more expensive than a week earlier. At the same time, only a few Ukrainian factories are currently selling cucumber, and almost the entire volume of this product is shipped to retail chains.
Also this week, prices for Turkish cucumber have increased significantly. Currently, imported cucumber goes on sale for 38-46 UAH / kg ($ 1.40-1.69 / kg). Traders associate this situation with several factors at once. Previously, the rise in prices was provoked by the rise in prices for cucumbers in Turkey, which at the moment is actually the only supplier of these products to the Ukrainian market. Moreover, the supply of Turkish cucumber is rather small and unstable, which also affects the prices of local cucumber.
At the same time, today the cost of a local cucumber on the Ukrainian market is already on average 31% higher than at the beginning of December 2020. Imported products for the year increased in price by a total of 24%. According to key market players, price growth in this segment may noticeably accelerate as early as next week, because demand in this segment continues to grow rapidly, and the supply of cucumber remains rather limited.
