British scientists create new garlic-based nematode control
Agrochemistry
An innovative product for the control of nematodes on sugar beet NEMguard DE, which is based on garlic extract, was created by British scientists. Currently, the drug has received approval from the British research organization BBRO.
"NEMguard DE should help farmers control free-living nematodes," the report says.
The novelty is in the form of granules containing 450 g / kg of garlic extract. The drug is applied using a special applicator. Application allows to reduce the loss of sugar beet yield from nematodes to a minimum.
The study authors remind that nematodes lead to stunted plants and reduced root size. Injury by nematodes (FLN) is most common on light sandy soils, especially in conditions of heavy rainfall in spring.
“BBRO has long been looking for alternative protection against nematodes,” explains a spokesperson for the organization. “Together with the manufacturer Ecospray, we conducted three field trials of a garlic-based product. The conditions were chosen as ideal for the development of nematodes. Nemguard DE has proven to be effective. "
