Grain exports from Ukraine have grown significantly amid record crop yields

The volume of exports of wheat and barley in 2021 increased compared to last season by almost 10% – by 1.7 million tons. This is due to the record harvests of these crops.

This is evidenced by the data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Since the beginning of the current marketing year (MG, July 2021 – June 2022) and as of October 18, 16.5 million tons of grain have been shipped in Ukraine, which is 1.7 million tons more than on the same date last year.

In particular, wheat was exported 10.7 million tons (700 thousand tons more), barley – more than 4 million tons (720 thousand tons more). Also shipped 1.5 million tons of corn, which is still being harvested.

In general, this season Ukraine plans to export 24.5 million tons of wheat, 5.2 million tons of barley, and 30.8 million tons of corn. Together with other crops, the total grain export in 2021-2022 MY should be 61.5 million tons.

Grain harvest in Ukraine

In Ukraine, in 2021, two records for the grain harvest were set – farmers harvested the largest harvest volumes in the history of wheat (32.9 million tons) and barley (10.1 million tons).

The Ministry of Economy predicts the total grain harvest in Ukraine in 2021 at the record level of 2019 – 75 million tons.
