Hackers attacked Ukrainian agricultural enterprises

Business

In Ukraine, cyberattacks on private enterprises of the agricultural sector were recorded. Criminals encrypt information on computers and demand a ransom to restore access.

This was reported by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Center (NCCC) under the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine on its Facebook page.

"Attention! Facts of data encryption have been recorded in a number of private enterprises in the agricultural sector! Criminals demand a ransom for information recovery. The data is encrypted using the standard means of the Windows operating system - Bitolcker through infected servers. Cybercriminals find the mikrotik gateway vulnerable and through Zero-day gain access to the victim's network,” the message says.

The National Cybersecurity Coordination Center named the algorithm of actions for such attacks:

  • do not restart the computer (the decryption key is in RAM, and specialists will help restore information);
  • report attempted attacks and, if possible, provide indicator data;
  • do not pay money to the extortionists, as this is not a guarantee of data recovery.
