Ukraine has fulfilled 46% of obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU in the agricultural sector
This was stated by Olga Stefanishina, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, the press service of the European Integration Portal reports. “Now the internal work is being completed on the assessment of the achievement of the goals of the Association Agreement, which will be presented at the EU-Ukraine summit. Our analysis shows that thanks to the Association Agreement, Ukraine and the EU have significantly increased bilateral cooperation and we have managed to implement a significant amount of European legislation. The Ukrainian government is also preparing proposals for the further integration of Ukraine into the EU,” says Stefanishina. Note that Ukraine has already fulfilled 46% of the obligations under the Association Agreement in the field of agriculture and has significant potential for trade with the EU in agricultural products. In particular, Ukraine has implemented a number of EU acts on quality policy, namely the requirements for products with cocoa, chocolate, honey, and the like. “In the field of organic production, a framework law has been adopted that creates transparent conditions for the production and circulation of organic products. The development of bilateral trade in agro-industrial products between Ukraine and the EU requires a revision of the residual tariff quotas, ”explains the Vice Prime Minister. In addition, in June of this year, Ukraine submitted to the EU specific proposals for updating customs tariffs and quotas, corresponding to the needs in bilateral trade of both Ukrainian and European businesses. “We expect to receive a vision of our proposals from our European colleagues. We hope for a successful conclusion of the negotiations, because Ukraine and the EU already have successful examples of such cooperation, in particular, while viewing trade preferences for certain groups of Ukrainian goods, ”Olga Stefanishina summed up.
