It is noted that the ship hit the shore near the Yaylata nature reserve. The accident could lead to an environmental disaster in the Kaliakra reserve, home to many protected seabirds and endangered species of marine animals.
Urea, when released into the sea in high concentration, reportedly causes a violent bloom of phytoplankton, which produces a toxin that is harmful to marine life, including seabirds. When it accumulates, it can also pose a danger to human life when consuming fish or seafood.
In addition, Greenpeace expressed its outrage at the negligence of the Bulgarian authorities and warned of possible irreversible consequences for the environment.
The captain of the vessel Vera Su, executive director of the Bulgarian Maritime Administration Ventsislav Ivanov noted that the vessel can no longer be saved, all that remains is to take measures to recover the sunken property.
