Farmers who use reclaimed land promised state support

Agricultural producers using irrigated land for agricultural production will receive government support. The corresponding decree No. 1070, which provides for the procedure for its provision, is published on the Government portal.

This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko, the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy informs.

“We are gradually but confidently moving towards the implementation of irrigation reform in Ukraine. The development of irrigated agriculture, and, consequently, the support of farmers who work on reclaimed land is now the main priority of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy,” noted Roman Leshchenko.

According to the Minister, Ukraine together with other states to respond to global climate change, because it is primarily about food security.

“These things are interconnected, if we create the right conditions for agricultural producers, modernize irrigation systems, then at the same time strengthen our position in food security, and also optimize the use of water resources and electricity, in today's realities it is also very important. Water is a value that we already need to start saving,” noted Roman Leshchenko.

Budget funds to agricultural producers will be transferred in the form of a budget subsidy on a non-refundable basis in the amount of up to 25% of the cost of costs (excluding value added tax) for the irrigation systems put into operation from November 1, 2020 to October 31, 2021. The funds will be used for the reconstruction of existing or construction of new irrigation systems. We are talking about materials, sprinkler equipment, canals, pipelines and the like.

However, if the cost of equipment, materials, construction and installation of drip irrigation systems was partially compensated by state or local budgets, support in the form of budget subsidies will not be provided to agricultural producers.
