The standards for maximum permissible concentrations of hazardous substances in soils, as well as their list, were approved today at a meeting of the Government.
This decision sets standards for 39 hazardous substances, the excessive content of which leads to harmful effects on the environment, soil pollution and human health.
“The preservation and reproduction of soil fertility is important, especially in the context of the land reform in Ukraine. The innovations allow citizens to protect their land plots from “unscrupulous” tenants who, during their economic activities, excessively deplete and pollute the soil, using various concentrated fertilizers or pesticides for quick profits, ”he commented. Ruslan Strelets, Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
He also said that the approved amendments empower the regulatory authorities to exercise control over the protection of land resources and compliance by business entities with environmental standards, as well as bringing violators to justice.
This document also becomes the basis for:
- rational use, reproduction and protection of land resources;
- taking measures to prevent land pollution by chemical and radioactive substances;
- compliance by business entities with environmental standards in the field of land use and protection.
