Ministry of Agriculture on preparations for sowing: the most critical shortage of fuel for agricultural machinery
State
The needs of Ukrainian farmers for sowing are provided by 84%. Most of all there is not enough fuel for agricultural machinery.
This was stated by the Minister of Agropolitics Roman Leshchenko, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
According to the minister, the needs for plant protection products are provided by 55%, seeds - by 78%. Leshchenko added that the situation with the shortage of fuel is being resolved at the level of the first persons of the state.
"The total need for fertilizers is covered by 84%, for plant protection products - by 55%. This indicator is unsatisfactory, but not critical, because the lack can be compensated by imports from EU countries that are ready to provide us with the necessary support."
Moreover, the agronomic dates for the introduction of PPPs fall mainly in May. The most critical problem is with fuel, it is being solved at the level of the first persons of the state,” the minister said.
He recalled that the farmers are starting preparations for sowing in the fall of the previous year, so that they were able to prepare the necessary resources for the war.
"Regarding food security. It is too early to give any assessments - everything will depend on the military situation in the state. Ukrainian farmers are very courageous and ready to work in difficult conditions to ensure food security."
There are no optimal calendar dates for sowing, they depend on the weather. We have a cold spring, so the start of the sowing campaign has been somewhat delayed. The main period this year will be in April-May," Leshchenko added.
