The Ministry of Justice registered the procedure for the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry
The Ministry of Justice has registered the procedure for the use of antimicrobial veterinary medicinal products in veterinary medicine and the procedure for submitting a report by veterinary medicine specialists who use them. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy.
“Antimicrobial veterinary medicinal products, antibiotics, now remain the main drugs in the fight against bacterial infections in veterinary medicine. The uncontrolled, excessive use of such a drug in animal husbandry makes the problem of antimicrobial resistance a serious threat to human health. To ensure control over the use of antibiotics, the Ministry of Economy has developed an appropriate order that is mandatory for market operators to comply with. In order to prepare for the new regulation, a transitional period has been set until March 21, 2023, when the order will come into effect,” commented Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Trade Representative of Ukraine.
It is reported that a separate order was developed in pursuance of the Law of Ukraine “On Veterinary Medicine”, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on February 4, 2021, and the National Action Plan to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance.
Reference:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing public health risk, a worldwide threat. The number of various resistant (antibiotic-resistant) bacteria transmitted to humans from animals is increasing daily because the same antibiotics are used to treat animals as they are used to treat humans. The biggest danger causing the development of antimicrobial resistance in veterinary medicine is the biotransformation of antibiotics from animal products into the human body.
Recall that in March 2021, the Ministry of Economy developed and published for public discussion a draft order “On approval of the Procedure for the use of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine”.
