It was announced why Ukraine imports Polish lard and Russian cucumbers

Import

Ukraine is starting to import more and more products from other countries. Greenhouse vegetables, pork and even cottage cheese have attracted attention this season. It is reported by Segodnia.

For some reason, the country began to import these simple and familiar products for Ukrainians from other countries. Cucumbers come to us from Russia, tomatoes from Turkey, cheeses from European countries, recently even pork and lard.

Oleg Pendzin, a member of the Economic Discussion Club, spoke about the reason for such an increase in imports.

The expert emphasized that now almost all vegetables and fruits from the counters are greenhouses, which means that Ukraine has problems with the creation and maintenance of greenhouses.

“When you look at how much a kilowatt-hour of electricity costs for a household consumer or a cubic meter of gas, you will understand that it is almost impossible to survive in such conditions. This is why we have a lot of greenhouses being closed, ”says Pendzin.

Why do we need Dutch pork?

A member of the Economic Discussion Club says that in Ukraine there is a rather difficult situation with raising pigs, since the lion's share is produced in households.

Adding problems and African swine fever, which leads to a drop in livestock.

"In winter, as a rule, this situation becomes even worse, because the price of compound feed grows significantly and it becomes unprofitable for households," the expert says.

It is interesting that now a large amount of Polish lard is imported to Ukraine, and pork comes mainly from Denmark and the Netherlands. In these countries, pigs are raised and meat is processed in a very different way.

Is there no milk in Ukraine?

According to Oleg Pendzin, dairy products do not play an important role and this creates a corresponding demand on the market. Generally, not very high quality European dairy products are going to Ukraine.

“Therefore, this segment is really competing with Ukrainian producers, who, seeing a decrease in demand, also reduce the volume of production. A holy place is never empty and imports will definitely come to it, ”the expert says.

Pendzin also drew attention to the fact that the requirements for the quality of products in Ukraine are lower than in Europe, therefore, Ukrainian milk raw materials may not be suitable for processing at local large enterprises.
