Tangerines with a dangerous pest brought to Ukraine

A huge consignment of tangerines - 19.8 tons - was suspended at the customs in Chernivtsi. This is reported by the Main Directorate of the State Consumer Service in the Chernivtsi region.
A pest was found in tangerines - the Mediterranean fruit fly.
“At the Chernivtsi customs terminal, during an inspection and phytosanitary examination, a Mediterranean fruit fly (larvae in a live state) was found in a cargo with tangerines (19.8 tons), which was heading from Turkey,” the message says.
The shipment has been returned to the exporting country. According to the State Food and Consumer Service, the Mediterranean fruit fly is a dangerous quarantine pest.
