State Food and Consumer Service: there is a high risk of bird flu in Ukraine
The epizootic situation of avian influenza has become more complicated in Europe in recent years. Outbreaks of the disease are recorded in most countries, including those bordering Ukraine.
This is stated in the message of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
“Today our country is free from bird flu, but the risks of bird flu in Ukraine are especially high during the autumn migration of birds. The highest risks of exacerbation of the epizootic situation will exist over the next three months – in October, November and December,” the department warns.
The State Food Service reminds that the most effective measures aimed at minimizing the risks of the spread of bird flu in Ukraine is to comply with biosecurity requirements, both in commercial farms and in private farms, and, in case of illness, timely response and implementation of measures to localize and eliminate the disease.
To date, the DPSS has introduced a multi-level system for the control of avian influenza, which is based on:
- functioning of the early warning system of suspected disease and implementation of monitoring programs (active and passive observation) of the disease in the country;
- the functioning of a network of accredited laboratories that are able to provide timely diagnosis of the disease;
- monitoring compliance with biosafety requirements;
- the introduction of restrictions / prohibitions on the import of live animals, reproductive material from the territory of countries, zones where the most dangerous animal diseases are registered;
- control at the state border (control of the import of goods by the regional services of state veterinary and sanitary control at the border and transport).
It is also noted that the latest media reports about the death of wild migratory birds on the coast of Lake Sivash near the Arabat Spit were not confirmed.
In addition, BAM previously wrote about the dangers for small and medium-sized enterprises.
