Pork has fallen in price, but the pre-holiday price increase is expected

The first half of December ended with a drop in prices for the purchase of slaughter pigs. This week the average mark has lost 2.8%, stopping at 44.8 UAH / kg.
However, from the third decade of December, the vector of price movement will change, predicts the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine.
“Intense negotiations between pork producers and procurers last week resulted in lower purchase prices. As a result, the operators sold most of the consignments at UAH 1-2 / kg cheaper than a week earlier - at UAH 44-46 / kg. At the same time, it was not possible to satisfy numerous requests for additional volumes that appeared during the week. Contrary to the expectations of individual processors, the market has not yet seen a rush of supply of pigs of slaughter condition, ”the experts explain.
This week, operators report a noticeably faster demand for live bait from slaughterhouses and meat processing plants, the absence of transitional balances of marketable livestock and even a decrease in sales of live bait from several significant market players; pig producers expect an increase in pork prices in the second half of December.
“Taking into account the traditional intensification of trade in the pre-holiday period, the planned price range for the next week is UAH 46-47 / kg,” the ACS concluded.
