Ukrainian poultry factories point to the threat of curtailing the production of poultry meat due to the rise in the price of natural gas and are awaiting help from the government. This is reported by zaxid.net, writes agronews.ua.
Chicken producers sent a letter to the Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leshchenko, which was signed by eight Ukrainian enterprises. The letter noted that due to high gas prices, there is a threat of closure of enterprises producing chicken.
“In the production process, when raising broiler chickens and producing poultry meat and its processed products, we consume natural gas. It is the main energy source on which the production processes of the poultry industry directly depend. Back in the first quarter of 2020, the share of energy carriers in the cost of a kilogram of poultry products was UAH 1.6, in the first quarter it increased to UAH 2.11, in November it was already about UAH 4, and in December it soared to UAH 6.4, ”says in the leaves.
Producers emphasize that such an increase in gas prices will force them to raise prices for products on the domestic market. This could lead to the replacement of Ukrainian chicken with imported ones, which will undoubtedly damage the industry.
