In the cold season, minimum ventilation is used at the pig farm.
Depending on the season, ventilation at the pig farm is conditionally divided into three types: maximum, moderate and minimum, writes The Ukrainian Farmer magazine.
In the cold season, minimal ventilation is used. The main task is to provide the room with fresh air, free from harmful gases, and at the same time reduce heat output. This is especially true in the farrowing and nursery areas, where even with minimal ventilation, more heat is removed from the house than the pigs.
Therefore, to maintain the correct temperature, it is necessary to have an additional source of heat for the piglets. This can be either pre-heating the room where the piglets are, or lamps or rugs to warm the animals.
An air preheating system involves designing a building to include either a suspended ceiling or a corridor. In the presence of a false ceiling, cold air from the street first enters the attic, and not directly into the animal room. From the attic, air enters the room through the ceiling inlet valves, mixing with warm air collected under the ceiling.
Consequently, there is a partial recovery of warm air and its recirculation down to the level of the animals. This ventilation system is excellent for all stages of pig rearing.
A ventilation system using a suspended ceiling not only creates a more comfortable environment for animals, but also saves energy. Studies have shown that heating a room without a false ceiling requires 193 m³ more natural gas than without it.
Recall that during the cold period it is important to set the correct temperature in the units for pigs after disinfection.
