The number of cases of African plague has decreased in Ukraine
According to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, 11 cases of African swine fever (ASF) have been registered in Ukraine since the beginning of the year. This is significantly less than in previous years. So, in 2020, 28 cases of ASF were recorded, in 2019 - 53 cases, in 2018 - 145 cases.
This year, two cases were recorded in Chernivtsi, Nikolaev and Kherson regions, one case - in Vinnytsia, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, Kharkiv regions and in the city of Kiev. The largest number of cases (7 out of 11) were recorded in the private sector and households.
Since the beginning of the year, 13,521 samples from pigs from farms and the private sector of the population have been examined for African swine fever. In any case, confirmation of ASF, measures were taken in accordance with the Instruction on the prevention and control of African swine fever in force in Ukraine, including quarantine in disadvantaged areas, seizures of all susceptible animals and raw materials from them in foci of infection, zoning, control of preventing movement controlled cargo from disadvantaged areas, quarantine posts, measures in protection and surveillance zones, disinfection and deratization, monitoring in wild fauna and among domestic pigs, etc.
Now, five settlements remain unfavorable for ASF: two in the Kherson region and one each in Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kharkiv regions. The response and prevention of the spread of ASF continues.
Reference. African swine fever is an acute infectious viral especially dangerous disease of pigs, which is characterized by fever, hemorrhages, cyanosis of the skin and high mortality. People do not get sick with ASF.
