In Israel, bird flu has struck wild cranes and farms: hundreds of thousands of birds will be destroyed
In Israel, the deadly H5N1 avian influenza virus has killed wild cranes and then bird farms. As a result, hundreds of thousands of birds will have to be destroyed in the country.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Times of Israel.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, one in five wild crane living in or migrating through Israel has been infected with the avian influenza virus.
The virus is believed to have spread from Moshav Margaliot on the Lebanese border. In this area, 244,000 laying hens are kept on farms in 60 chicken coops. The farms supply six million eggs monthly for consumption by the Israelis.
It is noted that local farmers were unable to report in real time about the increase in mortality among poultry, which led to the rapid spread of the virus.
Many chickens had died by the time the ministry's inspectors arrived. In one chicken coop, out of 2,000 chickens, only 70 remained alive.
The ministry has already announced that 320,000 laying hens are to be killed in the coming days in the Margaliot area.
The ministry also said it was concerned about the possibility of people contracting the virus through chicken coops adjacent to houses in moshav.
Recall that bird flu was also found in South Korea. 10 thousand ducks were infected there.
