World

The mollusk was found in mid-December and is about 15 years old. The delicacy found its buyer on the eve of the winter holidays.

One of the largest oysters in the world, weighing over two kilograms, was caught in the municipality of Carantek on the west coast of France. This is reported by the Le Telegramme edition.

The oyster found in mid-December turned out to be 20 grams heavier than the previous record holder, which was discovered last year in the same region. At the same time, the largest oysters that are sold on the mainstream market weigh a little over 150 grams on average. The giant clam is 26.5 cm long, 13 cm wide and 10 cm thick.

The manager of the Huitres de pen al lann oyster company, Gireg Burder, estimated the age of the oyster at 15 years. According to him, farmers also managed to find about ten large oysters of the same size and weighing more than one kilogram on the beach.

The giant oyster found a buyer on Christmas Eve, December 24th. Despite its unusual size, Burder said the clam is edible. However, it is impossible to open it with a knife; for this you need to use a hammer and chisel.

Note that the official world record belongs to an oyster found in Denmark in 2013. Despite the size of the mollusk - 35.5 cm long and 10.7 cm wide - its weight is much less than that found in Karanthek, 1.62 kg.
