Up to 75% of the area under winter crops is inhabited by mouse rodents
Mouse rodents, in particular, voles, are counted throughout Ukraine in the fields of winter crops and rapeseed. Their number reaches 9 residential colonies/ha.
This is reported to the State Food and Consumer Service.
In all natural and climatic zones of the country, on 75% of the surveyed areas of winter cereals and rapeseed, the resettlement of mouse-like rodents continues, where from single burrows to 1-3 colonies per 1 hectare are taken into account.
In perennial grasses, ailments, forest belts, arable lands, 1-4 are taken into account, max. 5-6 (Volyn, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Kherson regions) in the Rivne region up to 9 residential colonies per 1 hectare. In the Steppe, unplowed areas after harvesting corn, sunflowers, cereal crops by the number of 2 barrows per 1 ha are inhabited by the barrow mouse.
“In the future, the threat of damage to winter crops, perennial grasses and plantations will persist everywhere. A system of precautionary measures plays an important role in reducing the number of murine rodents, in particular voles. Destruction is primarily achieved by timely and high-quality fall plowing, which destroys burrows and destroys the food base, while a third of adults and all young individuals of rodents are killed or injured,” the experts of the State Consumer Service note.
According to them, the presence of 3-5 or more residential colonies per 1 hectare of crops indicates the threat of damage to plants and the need for protection through the use of rodenticides.
