Many Ukrainian farmers have sown winter crops without fertilizing

Due to the ultra-high prices for fertilizers, many Ukrainian farmers were forced to sow winter crops for the harvest in 2022 without applying fertilizers. Because of this and the insufficient amount of productive moisture in the fields, it is rather difficult to predict the winter crop for the next year.
The director of the Institute of Grain Crops of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vladislav Cherchel told about this in the plot of 34 TV channel.
“There will be a very big problem with the next harvest, because many owners have planted winter wheat without fertilization. And what will happen in the spring, no one can say yet. And fertilizers have risen in price very much and not all farmers have the opportunity to buy them,” said Mr. Cherchel.
He notes that these are the highest prices in the last 10 years. The COVID-19 pandemic, dry weather and an unstable situation in the global market - this also affected the cost of Ukrainian grain. And what the situation will be next is still unknown.
“Prices for grain crops have increased in Ukraine. In particular, wheat now costs about UAH 9,000 / t. Sunflower - about 19 thousand UAH / t. Corn is a little more than 7 thousand UAH / t,” says the specialist.
