Breeders increase the resistance of hybrids to atypical weather conditions
Every year, breeders work to create new varieties and hybrids of crops. They are faced with the task of strengthening their resistance to atypical weather conditions, as well as to diseases and pests that have been progressing in recent years on the territory of Ukraine.
According to the DSV company, in recent years, cabbage clubroot disease has been actively spreading and causing significant damage to crops in Western Ukraine. To date, the only effective way to combat the disease is the sowing of genetically resistant hybrids. Consequently, the DSV has already created a hybrid of winter rapeseed that is resistant to this disease.
“Breeding is the basis of the activities of the DSV. Thus, 29% of employees in the company work in breeding (RnD) and their main task is the continuous creation of varieties and hybrids that are maximally adapted to the challenges of modern weather conditions and customer needs. That is why every year we have a set of new innovative products in our portfolio,” the company notes.
This year, for example, DSV will introduce eight new products to the Ukrainian market, including hybrids and varieties of corn, winter and spring rapeseed, and winter wheat.
