Ukrainian farmers all refuse to grow soybeans

Plant growing

Over the past 5 years, the area under soybeans in Ukraine has decreased by a third. This year, the leadership among crop producers in Europe was lost, giving way to Russia, which significantly increased the acreage under legumes.

It is noted that for several years Ukraine has been reducing the area under soybeans. According to the State Statistics Service, soybeans were removed from the area:

2.135 million hectares in 2015,

1.728 million hectares in 2018,

1.612 million hectares in 2019,

1.364 million hectares in 2020

In 2021, 1.28 million hectares of soybeans were planted. Now the crop has already been harvested from an area of 1.26 million hectares (99% of the forecast).

“There is a reduction in soybean acreage in Ukraine. This is due to government regulation, because the cancellation of soybean edits took place after the sowing season, so farmers did not have time to react, ”explained Oksana Prosolenko, director of the official representative office of the Danube Soya Association in Ukraine.

A systematic decline in production is proceeding in a similar way. According to the State Statistics Service, 4.46 million tons were harvested in 2018, 3.69 million tons in 2019, and 2.79 million tons in 2020. In addition, in March this year, Ukraine purchased soybeans from Brazil for the first time.
