Harvest of sweet cherries in the Odessa region was destroyed by poor pollination and rains

The harvest of sweet cherries in the SFH "Victoria" in the Odessa region was destroyed by bad weather, due to which pollination did not go well. Then there was a period of downpours, from which the crop cracked.
Andriy Argirov, agronomist of the farm, spoke about this in an interview with the Ukrainian Horticulture magazine.
“In the spring, although there were no big frosts, it was constantly cold, including during the flowering period,” he said. – About 80% received primary pollination, and after two weeks they realized that only the primary had happened, but there was no pollination of the seed itself. And due to the lack of hormones, 80% of the fruits just fell out in us.
In general, the sweet cherry harvest turned out to be below average. But there was a problem with the fact that it rained for 10 days during the collection.
“Even famous preparations did not help,” the agronomist noted. “We survived four days of 80 mm of rain without cracking, but on the fifth day another 40 mm fell, and it was almost a control shot that destroyed 95% of the crop. The middle sweet cherry was pollinated, but Melitopolskaya was battered by the rains, and Kordia and Regina had fruit incorporation at 10% of the planned one. We managed to protect them from cracking and, in principle, we got, although a low yield, but good quality with a caliber of 30-32 mm.
