Ukraine and Turkey will strengthen cooperation in the field of land reclamation and irrigation

On December 9, the fifth meeting of the Ukrainian-Turkish working group on agriculture was held, at which the prospects and priority areas of Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the agricultural sector were discussed. The Turkish side is interested in the implementation of irrigation projects in Ukraine.

The event was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky, representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, from the Turkish side - Director General for EU Affairs and External Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey Ailin Chaalayan Ozcan, as well as authorized members of the Turkish delegation.

”Ukraine and Turkey have close economic ties and an active bilateral dialogue. Today, our goal is to find a mutually beneficial solution to reduce technical barriers, continue to work on harmonizing certifications and market access, which is critical for both countries. After all, our countries have great economic and investment potential for a significant increase in the indicators of bilateral trade,” said Taras Vysotsky.

He emphasized that a significant event took place this year, namely, the Law of Ukraine "On the turnover of agricultural land" was adopted, which contributes to the growth of agricultural production. The next important step will be a large-scale reform of the restoration of land reclamation.

”We know that Turkey has extensive experience in building effective irrigation, so we are confident that this new block of our cooperation will have significant prospects and development in the coming years,” added the first deputy minister.

During the meeting, the parties discussed past achievements in bilateral work and identified areas for further cooperation.
