The Ministry of Economy lowers the forecast for the harvest for the second time. Now up to 65 million tons

Ukraine can harvest about 65 million tons of grain in 2020, compared with a record harvest last year - 75.1 million tons.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Vysotsky.

The previous forecast of the ministry assumed the collection of 68 million tons of grain.

The day before, the ministry said that by November 23, farmers harvested 60.9 million tons of grain from 14.7 million hectares, or 96% of the sown area.

The information website of the Agroprom of Ukraine also reports that as of November 23, 79.2 million tons of basic crops were harvested from an area of ​​23.5 million hectares. In particular, 60.9 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested from an area of ​​14.7 million hectares, or 96% of the forecast.

The farmers have already finished harvesting such crops as wheat, barley, peas, millet, buckwheat, sunflower and rapeseed.

However, the harvesting of corn and soybeans is still ongoing. Corn was harvested 25.2 million tons from an area of ​​4.8 million hectares (89%), and soybeans 2.7 million tons from an area of ​​1.3 million hectares (98%).

Almost 8.3 million tons of sugar beets were harvested from an area of ​​more than 196 thousand hectares (91%).

On the autumn sowing campaign - as of November 23, Ukrainian agricultural producers have sown the main winter crops on an area of ​​almost 7.9 million hectares (96% of the forecast). In particular, 58.6 thousand hectares were sown during the week.
