SupPlant included in TIME's Best Inventions for AI Irrigation
SupPlant was chosen as one of the best inventions by TIME magazine. SupPlant uses the world's largest database of plant sensors to provide farmers with climate-adaptive irrigation patterns, AI-based insights, actions and practices, helping them on their growing journey, which has been hit hard by climate change. Recently, 500,000 female maize growers in Kenya used the SupPlant system.
SupPlant's new sensorless technology collects and analyzes hyper-local climate, plant and irrigation data to help smallholders avoid crop failures. SupPlant offers extremely low-cost irrigation advice, weather and stress alerts, and AI-enabled agronomy advice to make smallholders more resilient to climate change.
SupPlant, Israel's leading smart irrigation company, aims to digitally inform every irrigation decision on earth. Most agritech companies target only 2% of the world's growers and ignore the 450 million small farmers worldwide. SupPlant has grown 12x in the last 18 months, serving the traditional agricultural technology market for enterprise growers, and recently announced a $10 million capital increase to continue this trajectory. The company's management and investors are focused on serving all types of manufacturers to create a more sustainable world.
TIME's recognition comes against the backdrop of global warming affecting smallholder farmers who face daily an unpredictable, rapidly changing climate and constant shortages of irrigation water. SupPlant makes its technology available to these vulnerable populations by changing the basic concept of irrigation methods. It targets the world's 450 million small producers, as 76% of farmers grow crops on less than 2 hectares. In 2022, SupPlant plans to have more than 2 million smallholders in Africa and India using its new technology.
“TIME has recognized SupPlant's mission to change the future of water and food insecure farmers around the world,” said Ori Ben Ner, CEO of SupPlant. “The new sensorless technology does not require investment in equipment, which allows access to farmers who have not yet dreamed of such technology. We must remember that most farmers in the world cannot enjoy the amazing AgTech developments that we have seen over the past few years. Our ability to give them access to our technology is no less dramatic news for them and the world.”
SupPlant is the world's leading IoT company in agriculture. By changing the basic concept of irrigation methods, SupPlant's unique technology can save water on a global scale and increase productivity and yields. SupPlant has developed a unique artificial intelligence system capable of analyzing data received from crops using sensors and converting this data into watering commands. This system is the first of its kind and the only commercial system that allows autonomous irrigation based on plant and fruit data, based on soil water content and climate measurements.
