The harvester market in Ukraine revived

The increase in prices for grains and legumes during 2020-2021 had a positive impact on the domestic harvester market.

This was reported to AgroTimes at the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics".

According to the senior researcher of the investment and logistics department of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", Ph.D. Yaroslav Navrotsky, this market is largely dependent on price fluctuations in agricultural products, in particular, export-oriented crops.

Thus, the decline in prices for oilseeds, grains and legumes during 2018-2019 provoked a decrease in the number of purchased combines: 2147 - in 2019, 1936 - in 2020.

And then the prices for grains and legumes rose to 177.8 dollars. US/t (+18.8%) in 2020 and up to $231.5 US/t (+30.2%) in 2021; oilseeds: up to 402.6 dollars. US/t (+25.0%) in 2020 and up to 630.8 USD. US/t (+56.7%) in 2021.

In 2021, a total of 3,029 combine harvesters were imported to Ukraine from 17 countries of the world and the EU. Their customs value amounted to 283.8 million dollars. USA.

The leader among the producing countries of harvesters imported to Ukraine is Germany, where the production of John Deere and Claas brands is located. In 2021, Ukrainian farmers purchased 1,030 units of combines from these companies with a customs value of $150.5 million. USA.

The second place in terms of the cost of purchased machines is occupied by Belgium, where the production of New Holland rotary harvesters of the CR series is established. Last year, 206 such combines were imported with a customs value of $45.8 million. USA.

In third place - both in terms of quantity (433 combines) and customs value (41.2 million US dollars) - is the United States, where powerful rotary combines Case IH, John Deere and other brands are produced.

Combines of the Polish production New Holland of the TS, CX and CH series occupy the fourth place in terms of cost - 17.6 million dollars. USA for 120 imported combines.

“At the same time, a significant place in imports is occupied by harvesters, the country of origin of which is unknown. In 2021, in terms of the number of imported combine harvesters - 1024 - they are only a few units behind Germany, but their customs value is only 11.5 million dollars. USA. Given this, we can conclude that the vast majority of this equipment is of lower quality or has already been in operation,” the scientist notes.
