Experts predict an increase in the area under soybeans to 1.7 million hectares

Trade, investment

In 2022, the area under soybeans will increase to 1 million 600-700 thousand hectares. This was stated by Artem Nadolsky, a representative of the Rizobacter company at the Soy Jackpot as a Long Game conference, held as part of the Agro Animal Show 2022 exhibition.

“In 2021, the area under soybeans reached 1 million 300 thousand hectares. In 2022, they will definitely increase, although not sharply - up to 1 million 600-700 thousand hectares,” said Artem Nadolsky.

According to the expert, the growth of areas will be promoted by the high price of products. And also the attractiveness of soybean is that it requires much less nitrogen fertilizer than other crops.

However, due to climate change in some regions, on the contrary, they reduce the cultivation of soybeans.

“It is known that the culture is quite dependent on moisture. Therefore, this year the state continues the program that promotes the development of irrigated areas in Ukraine,” said Ihor Vishtak, director of the Department of Agricultural Development, Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

He added that according to the conclusions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, soybeans can occupy 20% of Ukrainian agricultural production, although at present its share is 4.5%.

Igor Vishtak also said that in recent years the country has been increasing the production of this crop.

If in 1990 soybeans were grown in Ukraine on 88 thousand hectares, then in 2021 1.3 million hectares are already occupied by the crop. 30 years ago, 100 thousand tons of soybeans were grown in the country (yield of 1.1 t/ha), now - 3.5 million tons (yield of 2.7 t/ha),” the expert summed up.
