Domestic farmers in 2021 significantly expanded the area under crops of sunflower and corn, while reducing the area under soybeans and rapeseed. This is reported by the Seed Association of Ukraine.

According to the report, a record 6.5 million hectares have been allocated for sunflower this year. And the area under corn increased by 4% compared to the previous season. Such data were announced at the Seed Forum 2021 conference.

Among others, the following trends were noted:

• the expansion of areas under corn and sunflower entails an increased demand for the seeds of these crops;

• due to climatic changes, the need to expand the range of adapted varieties / hybrids is increasing;
• in the seed segment of sunflower, rapeseed and maize, a significant share of sowing remains for imports;
• the development of domestic seed production opens up prospects for renewing the export potential of seeds of major crops.
