In the apple market, 40-50% of fruits are processed and lost.

Maria Lakeeva, Analyst of the Association "Yagodnichestvo Ukrainy" told about how the apple market is formed and what determines the price of fruits, during the International Practical Forum "Intensive Garden".
“The apple market consists of supply and sales. The offer primarily includes stocks from last season. And a negative sign of the 2021 season was the presence of large transitional stocks from the previous year, which affected prices. It is also gross collection and imports. We import more in the second half of the year, when there is no longer enough supply of our quality products,” says Maria Lakeeva.
Part of the market offer is fresh apples. In particular, the fruits are consumed by the producers themselves without any monetization. Apples are also processed and exported, and the remaining volumes are losses and ending stocks.
“I would like to draw your attention to the fact that in recent years 40-50% of apples have been processed and lost. Because, despite the overproduction of fruits in the last season, there are not so many high-quality apples in Ukraine, so most of the fruits are processed, and we even export some of the fruits for processing,” says Maria Lakeeva.
