In the 2020/21 marketing year, the harvest of sunflower seeds is expected at the level of 15.1 million tons. This figure is 15% higher than the same indicator of the previous year and will almost reach the maximum production volume recorded in 2019.

This is reported by the Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club (UCAB).

At the same time, growth will take place both due to higher yields compared to last year's indicators (+ 15%) and due to an increase in acreage (+ 2%).

“Sunflower seeds are the basis for the production of sunflower oil, and Ukraine is the world's largest producer and exporter of sunflower oil. Now in the world, there is an increased demand for vegetable oils, including sunflower oils. A sufficient amount of sunflower seeds grown this year will ensure domestic demand for sunflower oil, as well as generate a sufficient amount of export earnings and contain further price increases observed in the 2019/20 marketing year,” comments Svetlana Litvin, an analyst at UCAB.
