LLC "Barkom" introduces the technology of raising pigs without the use of antibiotics.

This was stated in an interview with The Ukrainian Farmer magazine by the head of the pig breeding department of Barkom LLC Sylvan Longshan.

“Currently, the farm is introducing the technology of raising pigs without the use of antibiotics, on natural feed,” he said. “We are also working on special projects for the production of very special and high-quality tasty meat containing omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.”

Since grains and protein sources are very expensive today, feed recipes are constantly being changed to match the recommended breeding companies at the best price.

“We produce feed ourselves, partly using our own grain, partly buying what we lack,” he said. “We work with some laboratories owned by partner feed companies, as well as some independent laboratories in Ukraine and abroad, to make sure that the quality of the grain is good.”

Also check the finished feed. “We control grain quality with particular attention, given the risk of mycotoxin contamination – this has been a problem in the western part of Ukraine for some grains since 2020,” Sylvan Longchamp added.

For diets, Barkom cooperates with several different companies and the recipes are prepared by their nutritionists. The main ingredients are very classic: wheat, barley, corn, rye, oats, soy, sunflower. Flavorings are not added. For some period, other ingredients are used: rapeseed meal or vinasse, but these ingredients are not available all year round.

As reported, Barkom feeds suckling piglets with milk and yogurt.
