Breeders have introduced a new variety of pink lemon

California-native pink lemons will start entering the European market in about two years. Belsan Lemons has planted 3,000 trees and plans to grow about 200,000 kilos in 5 or 6 years. It is reported by freshplaza.
“We relied on the harvest on one of our farms to see if it would work out,” says Francisco V. Gea. “We innovate; we see the markets are open and we want to see new things, ”explains Gea.
This type of lemon, the main characteristic of which is that its flesh is pink and the skin has green stripes. At first, it was intended for catering such as restaurants, hotels, etc.
"This is a gourmet product," Gea says. "It tastes the same as traditional, and we have the advantage that if left on the tree longer, its skin turns completely yellow." Thus, the Murcia company is betting on low risk knowing that it can always sell the product.
Several countries have already shown interest in these lemons, such as Sweden, Norway, Finland, France or the United Kingdom.
“There are good prospects in the international market, with prices ranging from 3 to 4 euros per kilogram,” adds Gea.
