As one of the owners of crocodile farms said, one animal can produce about 12 kilograms of meat. However, the most delicious and salable part of it is the upper part of the tail. It can be compared to pork or beef tenderloin. Although the taste of crocodile meat is more like chicken.
“Due to the fact that pork is expensive, more people began to eat crocodile meat, which is much cheaper and tastier. It is also low in fat and high in protein,” said one of the farmers.
It is worth noting that African swine fever has been reported in many parts of the world, resulting in the death of 6.7 million pigs since 2018 and a sharp rise in the price of pork. In Asia, the disease has hit China, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos particularly hard.
Now a kilogram of pork costs about 6 dollars (about 170 hryvnias), while the wholesale price of crocodile meat is 2 dollars, and the retail price is 3 dollars (about 56-85 hryvnias).
