Microalgae will raise Omega-3 levels in milk
Anpario, an independent manufacturer and distributor of feed additives for livestock, has released a new supplement based on microalgae and omega-3 fatty acids for use in the diet of dairy cows.
According to Dairyreporter, the Anpario Optomega product line includes Optomega algae.
They are dry free-flowing algae oil packed in foil-lined bags for optimum shelf life.
“For the production of Optomega Algae, a certain type of microalgae is used. Through fermentation processes, microalgae are a rich source of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, in particular docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA has been shown to support dairy herd fertility and can also help increase omega-3 levels in milk,” commented David Wilde, Global Innovation Manager and Ruminant Expert at Anpario.
