Cheese prices have increased in Ukraine
The situation on the Ukrainian cheese market is still difficult. To avoid losses, manufacturers raise prices, although this leads to lower sales.
In addition, the rise in prices for domestically produced cheeses stimulates the import of European cheeses, which, although they have risen in price, are still cheaper than Ukrainian ones.
A record volume of cheese was imported to Ukraine last month: 3.8 thousand tons of rennet and 626 thousand tons of processed cheese. In total, over three quarters, cheese imports increased by 11%, to almost 33.4 thousand tons.
The category of hard and semi-hard cheeses, which directly competes with the cheeses of most domestic producers, accounted for 15.5 thousand tons, which is approximately equal to last year's import. Last month, the import of such products increased by 9% at once to the level of over 2 thousand tons.
And this is not surprising, because the cost of importing Emmental cheese is about 155 UAH / kg. At the same time, domestic cheese of the "Russian" type, even from little-known manufacturers, as a rule, is offered to distributors in large wholesale for no less than UAH 175 / kg. The convenience for cheese traders is obvious.
Almost half of the imported cheese comes from Poland (46%), 15% comes from Germany, 9% and 8% from the Netherlands and France, respectively.
