In the village of Sednev, the Chernigivelitkartofel enterprise is working on the creation of new varieties of potatoes - industrial.

This was announced by Igor Shkurko, head of the PrJSC NPO Chernigivelitkartofel.

Breeders are working to develop varieties that can be processed into chips and fries.

“There are certain requirements for such varieties: for dry substances and for reducing sugars, so that the potatoes do not turn black during frying. That is, these are potatoes for industrial processing, ”says Igor Shkurko, head of the enterprise.

In 2021, the company's experts cultivated about 30 varieties of potatoes on 160 hectares. Some of our own selection, some of them are foreign. Also, the breeding farm has its own varieties with a purple color of the pulp. In color, like beets.

“Now the potatoes are being sorted and will be sold in the spring. Previously, we carried out the implementation in the fall, but this year there is simply no time for this, ”said Igor Shkurko.

Breeders of NPO "Chernigivelitkartofel" in the town of Sednev, engaged in the selection and seed production of potatoes. Out of 180 employees, 20 make up a scientific division. The company has achieved excellent results in the production of elite grain seeds, including wheat, oats and barley. Under licensing agreements, it cooperates with leading domestic originals of varieties.
