Lviv railway optimizes the transportation of grain cargo

During the All-Ukrainian practical forum "Own Elevator", they talked about measures to address problematic issues that arise when transporting grain cargo by rail.

This was stated by the head of the commercial department of the Lviv railway Yuriy Ischuk.

  • Establishing close communication with shippers for prompt resolution of problematic issues.

Also, meetings are held at the level of meetings of local authorities, with the participation of the heads of regional state administrations and railway workers, to jointly solve certain problems.

  • Redistribution of traction rolling stock, depending on the operational situation, both between railways and between regions.
“Recently, there has been a problem with traction rolling stock. But since the seasonality of cargo transportation in the regions of Ukraine is different, we influence the process of redistribution by redeploying a certain number of locomotives, for example, the Lviv railway. Today, where the profile permits, we use American locomotives, with which we take out 5,000 wagons. We also redistribute shunting and mainline locomotives within the railway between regions where there is a demand for this, because we carry not only grain, but also coal and building materials,” Yuriy Ischuk notes.
  • Paying maximum attention to the repair of locomotives.

It is noted that last year was unstable in terms of track repairs, because it coincided with the time of peak grain transportation. Therefore, the largest amount of funds has been allocated for this event.

  • Prompt replacement of grain carriers in case of detection of technically or commercially unsuitable for loading.
  • Promotion of goods along railway sections with a complicated train situation and a systematic analysis of delivery times.
“We control every train. In particular, there is an automated database in which we track where cargo is delayed and influence the promotion of one or another type of rolling stock in a targeted way,” adds Yuriy Ischuk.
