In Ukraine, they propose to create a laboratory to test the quality of wine

The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection plans to create a laboratory for analyzing the quality of wine products, since there are no other opportunities to remove low-quality wines of dubious origin from the shelves today.

This was stated by the head of the State Food Service of Ukraine Vladislava Magaletskaya during the press conference “The situation on the Ukrainian wine market. Results of the meeting of the tasting committee ”.

“In order to remove substandard wines of dubious origin from store shelves, you need to be able to be widely detected. Therefore, Derzhprodspozhivsluzhba proposes to create a laboratory for the analysis of the quality of wine products. A nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer for this laboratory will be provided for in the department's procurement plan,” Magaletskaya said.

According to her, the laboratory can be created on the basis of the State Research Institute for Laboratory Diagnostics and Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise, for which it is necessary to purchase the appropriate equipment or such a laboratory can be created by a business and accredited according to the established procedure.

Magaletskaya noted that the problem of falsification of wine products exists not only in Ukraine.

“The scandal with the falsification of wine, which is exported, including to Eastern Europe, is taking place in a country like Italy. One of the most famous examples is the arrest by the police of this country of an organized group, forging and exporting Tuscan wines of a very famous brand. And, unfortunately, the amount of transactions was at the level of 400 thousand euros per month,” said the head of the department.

Magaletskaya urged consumers to pay close attention to the quality of buying wine in retail chains, pay attention to the labeling and, in case of doubts about the quality of products, seek help from the State Food Service.

The tasting to determine the organoleptic assessment of the quality of wine products was organized by Ukrvinprom together with the State Food Service, with the participation of representatives of the AMCU, DPS, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the Ministry of Economy and the Association of Sommeliers of Ukraine.

During the tasting, more than 400 samples of wine products of domestic and imported origin were tested, purchased by a commission in the trade networks of Ukraine.

Based on the results of the meeting of the tasting commission, wine products were identified that are characterized by low quality, violation of labeling rules, etc., misleading consumers. The best wine-making products of domestic origin were also determined, in particular, still and sparkling wine, cognac of Ukraine as nominees for the All-Ukrainian wine competition Professional Choice Award 2021.
