According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, in the marketing year 2021/2022 in Ukraine, sugar production is envisaged at the level of 1.4 million tons, which is 30% more than in the previous year, 2020/2021. Taking into account the significant transitional balances (422 thousand tons) at the beginning of the last marketing year, the total sugar supply will amount to 1.74 million tons, which will be enough to satisfy domestic demand, the volume of which does not exceed 1.25 million tons.

According to NACU "Ukrsakhar", today in Ukraine the sugar plant "Panda" LLC (Selishchansky sugar plant of the Cherkasy region) was the first to launch the process of sugar making from beets of the new crop. In particular, 33 sugar factories are planned to operate this year.

The sugar industry of Ukraine allows to produce up to 2 million tons of beet sugar per year, which fully satisfies the domestic consumer of the country (1.1 - 1.2 million tons).

Note that in the last 2020/2021 marketing year, due to unfavorable weather conditions, 1.1 million tons of sugar were produced in Ukraine, which is 25% less than in 2019/2020 MY.

According to the State Statistics Service, there is a gradual decrease in sugar consumption by Ukrainians. If in 2008 the average Ukrainian consumed about 41 kg of sugar and sugar-containing products during the year, then in 2020 - 28.5 kg. Such a decrease, among other things, is associated with a change in the food culture and a decrease in the need for sugar in related industries.
