Prices for plums are rising in Poland
The season for selling plums from local farms in Poland is now in full swing. But at the same time, prices in this segment are starting to grow rapidly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project with a link to the fresh-market website.
In the current season, according to the GUS, the gross harvest of plums is expected at 110 thousand tons, which is on average 10% less than a year ago. The drop in yields this year is attributed by most producers to the rather hot weather in early summer and subsequent rainstorms with hail.
The prices for local plums are much higher today than they were a year ago. So, at the moment, plums on the Polish market are offered for sale at 2.50-4.50 zlotys / kg ($ 0.65-1.17 / kg), which is on average 40% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.
At the same time, the demand in this segment is estimated to be above average. Another factor for the increase in selling prices for plums was the fact that many producers are currently holding back the sale of these stone fruits, as prices in this segment may rise even more.
